Steve Komac

Steve Komac was named the head coach of men’s wrestling at the University of Providence in March 2020 after serving as the interim head coach for the season. In his first season at the helm, Komac led the Argos to an 11th ranked national finish. He coached three All-Americans in his debut season, including National Runner-Up Casey Dobson, first time All-American Justin Harbison, and John Hensley.

Before joining the Argos, Komac was the head men’s wrestling coach at Great Falls High School, where he coached for 19 seasons. Komac consistently kept the Bison a contending team in the team, amassing nine Top-3 finishes during his 16-year tenure as head coach. During that time, Komac won three Montana AA State Championships (2013, 2014, 2015) and two runner-up finishes. During the 2014 season, the Bison had eight state tournament finalists and a program record six individual state champions. Before taking over for the Bison, Komac spent six years at the head coach at Browning High School in Browning, Mont.

Komac has coached a total of 39 Montana State Champions over his high school coaching career. He has been the Montana Coaches Association Coach of the Year three times, and has been a finalist 11 times. He was a National Coach of the Year finalist in 2017.

Komac is a 1994 graduate of Northern Montana College (Montana State University-Northern) where he competed for the Northern Lights and was a member of two NAIA National Championship teams.

Steve and his wife Dawnell have been married 26 years and have resided in Great Falls for the past 20 years. They have three sons, Jarren, Jordan, and Jace. Jarren graduated this past spring from the Argo wrestling program; Jordan is currently a member on the team. Jace keeps the family busy with football, wrestling and baseball. When Komac is not in a wrestling gym or spending time with his family, he can be found in the outdoors pursuing his hunting and fishing hobbies.
